Positive Displacement Flow Meters
Positive displacement flow meters measure volume directly, by trapping a fixed quantity of liquid in a chamber and counting how many times that chamber fills and empties. Oval gear, nutating disc, oscillating piston and rotary vane designs all work this way. Because accuracy does not depend on the flow profile, they suit viscous liquids, low flow rates and custody transfer of fuels, oils and chemicals.
