Actuators supply the force that opens, closes or modulates a valve on command from the control system. Pneumatic actuators dominate process plants because they are fast, powerful and fail-safe on air loss; electric actuators suit precise positioning and sites without an air supply; hydraulic actuators handle the highest torques.
