Seals
Seals keep the pumped medium inside the pump where the rotating shaft passes through the casing. Mechanical seals press a rotating face against a stationary one with a controlled film of liquid between them; gland packing and lip seals serve simpler duties. Face materials, flush plans and support systems are chosen for the pressure, temperature and abrasiveness of the product, because seal failure is the most common reason a pump comes out of service.
