To maintain the measurement stability and to monitor the detector functionality, the unique and unrivaled Berthold “cosmic radiation gain control” is used. This allows the use as a SIL2 high, or even low point level switch, without additional measures. Even the use in functional safety circuits with SIL3 is possible, when using two CrystalSENS LB 480. Furthermore the cosmic radiation gain control makes it possible to minimize the source activity for level switch systems. Berthold Technologies is the sole supplier of density and continuous level field devices, as well as level switches for SIL2/3 functional safety circuits. Another unique feature is the patented 4 … 20 mA monitoring, that identifies current signal deviations in the loop. Hence a possible fault in the current output circuit of the LB 480, or at the repeater side, e.g. due to lightning or wrong connections, can be identified without delay.
