Toray Industries is a Japanese materials manufacturer established in 1926, operating in fibers and textiles, performance chemicals, carbon fiber composite materials, and water treatment and healthcare. Toray began developing water treatment membranes in 1968 and now produces reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, microfiltration and membrane bioreactor products. Its spiral-wound reverse osmosis range covers brackish water TM and TBW series, TSW and TM800 seawater desalination elements, low-fouling TLF and TM series for wastewater reuse, and TZD elements for zero and minimal liquid discharge. Toray ultrafiltration uses PVDF hollow fibre in pressurised and submerged configurations, while its membrane bioreactor uses flat-sheet PVDF.
