Europe is gearing up to meet the dual challenge of the green transition: training a new generation of skilled professionals in the green sector while introducing innovative technologies at the same time to ensure truly sustainable development.

The demand for green jobs is steadily rising, with nearly 4 million new roles projected over the next five years in Italy, according to data from the Excelsior information system by Unioncamere and ANPAL. In this context, startups are playing a pivotal role, driving innovation and delivering tangible solutions to real-world environmental challenges.

Ecomondo, the international trade fair organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) and dedicated to the green and circular economy, will open its doors in Rimini, Italy, on November 5, representing an ideal meeting point for all stakeholders involved in this vital transition.

Ecomondo offers a unique platform to explore new frontiers of sustainability, bringing together supply and demand in the green job market while showcasing the most innovative technological solutions developed by young enterprises.

In the Innovation District and Start-Up & Scale-Up area, 19 start-ups – selected from 144 applicants, including international ones – will present cutting-edge solutions across key sectors of the green economy, from waste management and waste valorization to circular bioeconomy, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture.

Among these emerging ventures, highlights include zero-emission waste treatment plants, bio-based packaging solutions, advanced water purification technologies, and innovative systems for sustainable bioarchitecture. These start-ups are setting new sustainability benchmarks, offering targeted solutions to today’s most pressing environmental challenges. The Lorenzo Cagnoni Award for Green Innovation will recognize the three most innovative projects, celebrating excellence from both Italy and abroad.

Ecomondo 2024 in Italy thus reaffirms itself as a must-attend event for anyone seeking to lead the green transition and help shape a more sustainable future for Europe and the planet.
