Calibrating the Wax Machine

Calibrating the Wax Machine
The combined expertise of the companies’ thermal fluid test laboratory and their UKAS accredited calibration laboratory have seen Young Calibration move into the wax injection service line.

Having spent many years providing test and calibration support for high viscosity oils and chemicals they now venture into the wax casting environment where they are providing specialist PM and calibration support for wax injector and vision graphing machines, covering manual, vacuum, pneumatic and hydraulic powered systems.

The simpler and lower cost injection machines will often be self-regulated with no flowmeter but moving along the commercial scale machinery these are often fitted with single or multiple positive displacement flowmeters that require a pulse/volume flow rate calibration of the given media. Having the ability to cover all the machines’ measurement functions including multi-zone systems, they offer a full calibration service for wax temperature calibration of thermocouples, dial thermometers and resistance temperature probes in the temperature range of 20 – 200°C, wax flow from a 10 cc/min to 14,000 cc/min, wax pressure at the nozzle, hydraulic and system pressures covering vacuum to 20 bar pneumatic, to 200 barg hydraulic, along with verification of temperature and pressure control systems, via I-P using electrical simulation techniques.

These non-standard operating conditions are the typical of wax injections machines from producing simple jewellery moulds to intricate high value investment casting used extensively in the aviation manufacturing industry. Ensuring machine compliance and performance specification to be maintained users should implement regular PM schedule including cleaning, inspection and sensor calibration. Evolvement of the company service lines, the Calibration laboratory is now UKAS accredited to ISO 17025 for gas flow, water flow, oil flow, pressure, temperature, humidity, electrical and air velocity, offering a single source solution to many its’ customer base.
