A New Generation of the SL Hydrostatic Level Sensor

The special design with its hermetically sealed measuring system makes it the ideal instrumentation for any hygienic application, including outdoor and cooling tanks, and environments with condensation, temperature fluctuations, wash-downs or dust.
Anderson-Negele, specialist for hygienic sensor technology in the food and life sciences industry, introduces the new generation of its hydrostatic level sensor SL EVO. The predecessor model SL has been established for years as a particularly reliable and long-lasting solution for level measurement in storage tanks. With this new development, Anderson-Negele consistently builds on that strength and specifically addresses one of the greatest challenges of hydrostatic level control: measurement drift caused by moisture or other environmental conditions.
Two Diaphragms Instead of an Open Connection to the Atmosphere

Conventional hydrostatic level sensors compensate for atmospheric reference pressure through an open connection – essentially a hole in the housing. If moisture, condensation or dust enters through this opening, measurement accuracy is compromised over time. The new SL EVO features a Dual Diaphragm Design developed specifically for this application: the atmospheric reference value is measured via a second diaphragm rather than through a simple opening. This allows for a hermetically sealed measurement system from the environment and effectively prevents drift problems caused by condensation, moisture, humidity, or build-up.
This is of particular importance for dairies, breweries, and other beverage and food manufacturers: the sensor is specifically qualified for applications in wet environments with condensation or temperature fluctuations, such as raw milk tanks, beer maturation tanks, or juice storage tanks, as well as cooling and outdoor tanks in general – applications where conventional sensors reach their limits.
Precision, Ease of Use, and Flexible Communication

A newly developed display offers an optimized field readout in both vertical and horizontal orientation, a 360° LED signal light for status indication, and intuitive, fast operation on site. Programming and calibration can be performed while installed and without tools, either via capacitive touch buttons directly on the display head or alternatively through the digital interface.
The integrated tank linearization supports fast sensor programming even for complex tank geometries, and enables direct and accurate output of volume, level or pressure. Thanks to an additional process temperature output on the IO-Link version, a separate temperature sensor is no longer required, saving investment cost.
Flex Hybrid Technology and Smart Replace Design
With Anderson-Negele’s Flex Hybrid Technology, the sensor combines analog and digital communication in parallel: in addition to the classic 4…20 mA signal, IO-Link and HART 7.0 are available. The Smart Replace Design also enables automatic configuration and transfer of sensor programming via the IO-Link master when the sensor is plugged in – a benefit that saves time, particularly during sensor replacement and maintenance.
Hygienic and Robust for Use in the Beverage and Food Industry
The SL EVO achieves a calibrated measurement accuracy of 0.2% of URL with a temperature stability of ±0.2% per 5 °C (10 °F), and is designed for medium process temperatures up to 130 °C (266 °F) and CIP/SIP applications. A wide range of hygienic process connections and 3-A compliant versions is available; the diaphragm is made of electropolished stainless steel AISI 316L / 1.4404, with an Hastelloy “C” optionally available for particularly demanding media. Protection class IP 69K makes the sensor suitable for use during intensive cleaning with high-pressure wash-downs as well as in humid environments with up to 100% relative humidity.
Availability and First Trade Show Appearance at BrauBeviale
The new SL EVO level sensor will be available from Anderson-Negele starting in October. Interested parties can request a sensor demo or download the complete product information sheet from the Anderson-Negele website starting now. The SL will make its first trade show appearance at BrauBeviale (Hall 9, Booth 550) in Nuremberg, Germany, November 10–12, 2026.
