Müller co-ax: Pioneer in Coaxial Valve Technology

Coaxial Valve Technology
9 Apr 2026  |
Müller co-ax gmbh, founded in 1960 in Forchtenberg, Germany, is the original inventor of coaxial valve technology and today stands as a world market leader in this field. With more than 350 employees and a global network of subsidiaries and distributors in 27 countries, the company delivers solutions for the most extreme operating conditions.

What Makes a Coaxial Valve Different?

The unique design of the coaxial valve provides complete pressure balance, allowing operation from 0 bar without any minimum pressure differential. With only a single moving part, the valve is virtually maintenance-free, offering a service life up to ten times longer than conventional valves. Switching speeds under 30 milliseconds make it one of the fastest valve types available. Additional advantages include:

  • Bi-directional flow capability
  • Compact construction — no bulky actuators
  • Resistance to contaminated, abrasive and aggressive media
  • Back-pressure tightness at all times
  • No minimum pressure differential required to function

Wide Range of Applications

Coax® valves are used across diverse industries including shipbuilding, offshore, chemical processing, energy, oil & gas, hydrogen applications and aerospace. The product range covers direct and externally controlled coaxial valves, high-pressure valves up to 1,000 bar, control valves, cartridge valves and custom special versions. Available in:

Latest Product Developments

Müller co-ax continues to innovate at pace. Recent highlights include:

  • KX1000 — New hydrogen valve rated up to 1,000 bar; compact, efficient and leak-proof, ideal for H₂ compression, storage and transport
  • FMX 2.0 — Second-generation compact valve with higher pressure ratings up to 40 bar, upgraded material to 1.4404/AISI 316L and hydrogen-compatible seal options
  • Ex-Series-D — New ATEX/IECEx-certified solenoid series for explosive gas and dust atmospheres; standardised voltage variants from 20 V to 230 V
  • FCF & MK/VMK fire-test certified — Multiple valve series passed DIN EN ISO 19921 flame resistance testing, securing major marine project orders
  • HVO approval — Safety shut-off valves now officially approved for use with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) from July 2025

Quality and Certification

The company holds DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and EU Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU) certification, alongside ATEX, IECEx, DVGW and various marine shipping approvals (ABS, BV, CCS, RINA, DNV-GL, Lloyd’s). Selected products meet SIL 3 safety integrity standards. All valves are manufactured and tested at the company’s own premises in Forchtenberg — Quality. Made in Germany.
