Why Monitor Your Compressed Air Consumption?

Why Monitor Your Compressed Air Consumption?
In December 2020, the EU heads of state and government have agreed to decrease the reduction of greenhouse gases by 2030 from originally 40 % to 55 % compared to 1990.

To achieve this goal, companies must drastically reduce their energy consumption and thus their CO2 emissions.

How can you save energy, CO2 and, at the same time, production costs in your company?

At CS Instruments, we have been helping global companies for 20 years to make energy costs transparent and reveal potential savings in accordance with DIN ISO 50001.

The first step could be a simple flow monitoring in your main lines. One thermal mass flowmeter that can measure both your total consumption and your leakage rate. This will bring huge advantages to get an overview of the state of your system. A recommended device would be an insertion-type flowmeter like the VA 500 from CS Instruments. An insertion type flowmeter is recommended since it can cover big pipes up to 12” very easily

Thermal mass flow meters are not only strong to cover high flow rates they are also very strong in detecting very low flows such as leakages flows. You will be able to investigate your flow profile where your demand is at a maximum and the consumption in production free times which will show you the losses due to leaks. You won’t need two flowmeters for low- and high flow rates, with a proper thermal mass flow meter you’ll be able to detect both with one device.

After you got a first overview about your system, and investigated your compressed air consumption, you’ll see demand peaks and valleys. Peaks where you maybe must act to reduce them because your compressors are running at the maximum, and valleys where you should act by searching for the named leaks by fixing them.
