Waukesha Cherry-Burrell Adjustable Pressure Relief Valve from SPX FLOW

18 Oct 2021  |
Relief valves offer more than peace of mind when it comes to operating systems — they can enhance safety, increase pump service life and decrease maintenance.

These vital components protect pumps with an external overpressure relief valve. If the pump discharge pressure exceeds the set cracking pressure, the valve will open to a relief path.

Offering simplicity paired with reliability, Waukesha Cherry-BurrellWR60 / WR80 series adjustable pressure relief valves from SPX FLOW feature both an adjustable-spring and maintenance-free actuator. This allows users to set the desired relief cracking pressure right at the valve by simply turning the adjustment screw. Built with the user in mind, it is maintainable with worry-free, easy assembly and troubleshooting.

From food and beverage processing to pharmaceutical and chemical systems, the WR60/WR80 series has various control options available on the valve for feedback and automation — ensuring the right settings no matter the environment. Heavy-duty clamps and high-pressure adapters provide even more choice, with functionality up to 1220 psi (84 bar) applications. True-line mix body sizes and custom angled ports are available to match complicated pipe design, while custom port lengths and center-to-center dimensions can match older systems for easy drop-in replacements.

Its setup makes cleaning and processing efficient. The actuator piston bypasses the relief pressure setting and fully opens the valve for CIP cleaning without the need to over-pressurize the valve and pipeline. Additionally, multiple body styles provide minimal dead-leg relief configurations with the pump.

WR60/WR80 series valves are made to last. They feature heavy-duty construction with three bearing locations and sealed, welded construction. There are no exposed threads, which are features that can harbor bacteria leading to contamination. The adjustment nut is contained inside of a sanitary cover to safeguard the threaded area. Positive-stop prevents overloading of the spring and engages with the sealed cap to lock in the setting. Cracking pressure adjustment ranges from zero (fully unloaded) to maximum published holding pressure of standard, heavy-spring actuators.

Three diameters are available: 4″, 5″ and 6″ for both air-to-raise (AR) on 1.5″ – 4″ W61 valves and air to lower (AL) on 2″ – 4″ W63 valves. Tef-Flow PEEK™ or metal seats are required for strength and durability.
