Commissioning of Iris Diaphragm Control Valves at North Toronto WWTP

The Toronto North wastewater treatment plant in Canada has been in operation since 1929, making it one of Toronto’s oldest wastewater facilities. It treats the wastewater of approximately 55,000 residents.

Located in the Don Valley, the plant has a capacity of 45.5 million liters/day (MLD), though typical flows are around 18 ML/day.

While upgrading the biological treatment, eight EGGER Iris® Airflow Control valves for fine bubles creation. They are being used in addition to new turbo-blowers, new membrane aerators and upgraded control technology.

When paired with upstream Kurz thermal mass flow measurement devices, the Iris Measurement and Control System can precisely adjust airflow to keep the oxygen content in the aeration basins stable, even under constantly changing influent conditions.

Thanks to their centrally closing geometry, Iris® Diaphragm Control Valves are able to control very precisely and economically and are characterized by a high positioning accuracy and repeatability.

The North Toronto WWTP uses the Iris® Airflow Control valves in sizes 6’’ (DN 150) and 8’’ (DN 200).
