Ultrasonic flow meters from Badger Meter are inferential meters that use ultrasonic technology to measure the velocity of an acoustically conductive liquid moving through it. There are two types of ultrasonic flow meter technologies, including Doppler and transit time. In addition to inline and open channel models, ultrasonic meters are available as clamp-on solutions when contact with the measured fluid is not possible.
The Dynasonics® TFX-5000 clamp-on ultrasonic flow and energy meter measures volumetric flow and heating / cooling energy rates in clean liquids, or those with small amounts of suspended solids or aeration. Measuring the difference between the travel time of an ultrasound wave moving with and against the fluid flow, the time difference is used to calculate the velocity of the fluid travelling in a closed-pipe system.
Suitable for high flow ranges, large pipe sizes and horizontal or vertical installation, this meter can be installed retrospectively without having to shut down the system or drain the pipes, as it is never in contact with the internal liquid. With operations able to continue during installation, the TFX-5000 can be fitted in under an hour by a single person, reducing both time and cost. Alongside reducing labour costs and simplifying installation, ultrasonic clamp-on technology has the commercial advantage of negating any requirement for closed-loop system drainage and removing the risk of downtime, therefore making this the preferred choice for retrofit application.
The Dynasonics® TFX-500w ultrasonic clamp-on flow meter is quickly and easily installed without cutting or tapping the pipe. Ultrasonic waves transmit upstream and downstream through the pipe wall and water flowing in the pipes. By measuring the difference in the travel time and knowing the pipe size, the meter determines the velocity and flow rate. TFX-500w flow meters are a cost-effective meter for measuring water flow in a variety of applications, suitable for low flow ranges, small pipe sizes and horizontal or vertical installation.
A SoloCUE® mobile app from Badger Meter is now available for Android and iOS devices, connecting wirelessly over Bluetooth® to Dynasonics® TFX-5000 Ultrasonic clamp-on meters. Save time during commissioning and troubleshooting by eliminating cables and reopening the enclosure of the meter. Access readings and diagnostics from further distances and share information with ease. Customers can choose to enable or disable Bluetooth on any TFX-5000 clamp-on meters with firmware 3.01.00 or later. For TFX-5000 clamp-on meters that were previously installed, please download SoloCUE® for Windows from the Badger Meter website to update the firmware and activate Bluetooth.
