AutoTest Technology: Innovative Gas Detection for Ultimate Peace of Mind
Toxic and combustible gases are commonly used in manufacturing, processing, decontamination, refining and fuel production and their presence poses significant hazards to personnel. Badger Meter offers a purpose-built range of robust gas monitoring solutions, designed to safeguard personnel, enhance environmental and onsite safety and improve efficiency.
When it comes to protecting people and facilities from hazardous gases, reliability is everything. Traditional gas detectors need frequent manual testing to make sure they’re working correctly, which can be inaccurate, time-consuming and expensive.
Through the pioneering AutoTest technology, Badger Meter has transformed gas detection, setting new standards for safety and reliability. This patented system uses self-generated gas for daily automated sensor checks, confirming sensor functionality without the need for manual bump tests. If a sensor fails to respond, early warning alarms provide timely alerts, optimizing system reliability while reducing operational costs and providing peace of mind.
Available on the F12D, F12iS and D12 gas detection systems, AutoTest automatically verifies sensor performance at preset intervals, raising the bar for industry performance and operational excellence. Click here to learn more.
Innovative Gas Detection System Enhances Safety at a Leading Soft Drinks Company
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an essential component in the creation of soft drinks, added during the production process to provide fizz. During bottling, CO2 is injected into the drinks under high pressure and large volumes of CO2 can potentially be emitted into the filler room atmosphere, exceeding pre-set regulations for safe working environments.
CO2 is colorless, odorless and tasteless, and in high concentrations can pose a significant risk to human health. Workplace exposure limits have been widely implemented and require the levels of CO2 to be continually monitored.
When decision makers at a large global soft drink manufacturer required a leading-edge solution to monitor both CO2 levels and oxygen depletion within the bottling plant they turned the experts at Badger Meter. By combining the GasSens Midi Controller with the F12D Toxic gas Detector and the D12Ex-IR Infrared Gas Transmitter they were able to create a customized, smart gas detection system which could provide immediate notification if safe, preset levels were exceeded.
This continuous monitoring solution provides the insights needed to maintain compliance with industry standards for safe working conditions. With this state-of-the-art system in place, facility managers now have the necessary tools and data visibility to create a safe environment, protecting the health and wellbeing of site personnel. The Role of Gas Detection Within Medical Reprocessing Applications
Endoscopy reprocessing is essential in today’s healthcare facilities and, as hospitals and healthcare providers adopt more sustainable practices, the reprocessing (sterilization) of reusable medical devices has become standard. This process reduces waste, lowers costs and extends the life of specialized instruments like endoscopes. The Association of Medical Device Reprocessors (AMDR) estimates that reprocessed devices are now used in more than 10,300 hospitals worldwide—a number that continues to grow as healthcare systems look for ways to improve efficiency without compromising safety.
However, these benefits come with new challenges. In order to be effective, sterilization cycles use powerful disinfectants such as peracetic acid (PAA), a substance which, if not managed properly, can pose significant safety risks to personnel operating within decontamination rooms. Occupational health and safety regulations require employers to prevent or limit exposure to hazardous substances and therefore, healthcare providers are choosing to install monitoring equipment to reduce the risk and increase workplace safety.
As a leading provider of smart gas sensor technology, Badger Meter is one of the few global manufacturers to offer a sensor specifically for the detection of PAA. Available through our BlueEdge portfolio, these electrochemical sensors are compatible with the F12D Toxic Gas Detector and D12 Fixed Toxic Gas Detector and the handheld D16 Portasens Leak Detector. They provide hospitals and medical facilities with a range of reliable and trusted solutions for maintaining safety standards within contamination rooms and protecting the health and well-being of site personnel.
