SIL qualification: Measuring devices with high functional safety
The rising cost of raw materials and ever greater demands for the reliability of production increase the importance of minimising failure rates. Labom, manufacturer of measuring devices in northern Germany, develops and manufactures a wide range of pressure and temperature measuring devices with SIL qualification, which meet particularly high demands for reliable operation.

Even though the measurement of pressure and temperature is one of the most common tasks in process engineering, no two processes are the same. In order to address each measurement situation individually, the Labom portfolio offers a wide selection of measuring instruments. This includes several SIL-compliant series for pressure, such as PASCAL Ci4, PASCAL CV3 and COMPACT, as well as mechanical pressure gauges with switching contact.

For measuring temperature, examples include the GA27 and GA25 series of resistance thermometers as well as gas expansion thermometers with switching contact. The PASCAL CV3 pressure transmitter offers another special advantage: modules can be replaced or added on site using simple “plug and measure technology” without recalibration and without removing the unit from the process. When combined with a switching contact module, this means that there is no need for a further control unit with SIL qualification, as the PASCAL CV3 can directly transmit the switching signal to an actuator, such as for halting a pump. This is a benefit for the customer, because apart from saving additional costs, control units are prone to relatively high probabilities of failure and are another link to consider in the safety chain.

Depending on the process connection, the various pressure and temperature measuring devices available from Labom are suitable for the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, energy, and many other industries. In addition to SIL qualification, most of the measuring devices also have explosion protection, all wetted parts are made of stainless steel and many of the devices are suitable for hydrogen applications. In this way, the highest possible level of functional safety can be achieved at every point in production.
