Flow Meter FMQ - The Compact and Affordable Hygienic All-rounder Now with IO-Link

1 Mar 2021  |
Anderson-Negele is consistently expanding its digitalised sensor range.

As the 6th sensor type and the first flow meter with IO-Link, the hygiene specialist is now offering its FMQ, which has been tried and tested for years, with digital communication. And this in Anderson-Negele’s typical flex-hybrid technology, i.e. the data can be transmitted and used in digital, analogue (4…20 mA) or parallel mode.

Hygienic flowmeters for the precise determination of the quantity or volume of media in plants are the basis for safe and efficient processes in almost all applications in the food and beverage industry. Typical examples are

  • Precise dosing in the mixing of beverages or other liquids
  • Recipe control for blending beverages
  • Monitoring of manufacturing processes in dairies, breweries, other food production facilities or in CIP skids
  • High-precision control of bottling processes

The electromagnetic flowmeter FMQ is an extremely versatile, robust and reliable device for all types of liquids, slurries and pastes with a minimum conductivity of > 5 μS/cm. It has already been a very proven product from the Anderson-Negele sensor portfolio for hygienic applications for several years. The performance range with a measuring accuracy of ±0.5% ±2mm/s and a measuring range from 30 l/h to 640,000 l/h is tailored to a wide range of applications, including dosing and filling. In a product upgrade, the electronics have now been supplemented with the digital interface IO-Link in Flex Hybrid technology. In addition, the FMQ, just like its “big brother” FMI, which is equipped with even higher measuring accuracy and extended electronics variants, is now also available as a remote version with remote electronics.

Installation and commissioning are time and cost saving thanks to plug-and-play technology, and sensor replacement is easier than ever thanks to the “Smart Replace Design” with automatic detection, configuration and parameterisation.

Proven and tested in practice for lasting precision

  • Extremely compact: The small size of the measuring body and electronics enable simple, vibration-insensitive integration into almost all applications.
  • Extremely robust: The magnetic field coils of the measuring system are completely encapsulated, which guarantees permanently reliable, precise measurement results even in very harsh environments with strong vibrations or pressure surges.
  • Extremely reliable: The entire sensor is made of stainless steel 1.4404 and is consistently protected against moisture, corrosion and vibration. The measuring tube lining in the transducer is made of high-quality PFA and is vacuum-proof and piggable. The FMQ is suitable for process temperatures up to 100 °C and CIP-capable up to 130 °C for max. 30 minutes.
  • Always correct: the integrated, automatic signal processing always ensures correct measured values, even when changing media (e.g. milk / CIP cleaner).
  • Extremely simple commissioning and operation: the user-friendly, rotatable display with optical buttons enables quick and easy programming without opening the housing and without mechanical buttons that are susceptible to interference.

Flexible and easy installation, optionally as remote version

Thanks to the manufacturer-independent process connection with standard aseptic flange, FMQ allows easy, hygienic installation according to 3-A for all pipe standards from DN10 to DN150.

The rotatable electronics housing with illuminated graphic display guarantees optimum alignment and readability of the screen for all installation situations. A remote version is now optionally available, enabling the electronics unit to be installed at a distance of up to 10 metres from the sensor.

Due to its needs-based performance spectrum, the FMQ is an efficient and cost-effective option for a wide range of applications. If extended specifications are required, the alternative high-end solution is the FMI electromagnetic flowmeter: the increased measuring accuracy of ±0.2% ±1mm/s is ideal for high-precision applications, and the more versatile electronics offer even more options and communication interfaces such as Ethernet IP.
