SAFI's Anti Corrosion Control Valves

31 Jul 2024  |
SAFI, the French leader in corrosion-resistant thermoplastic valves, is set to launch it’s range of control valves. This new range will make it possible to regulate flow whilst retaining the advantages of thermoplastics over metals : anti-corrosion, exceptional resistance to abrasion, attractive price and greatly reduced weight.

What is an anti-corrosion control valve ?

It’s a valve designed and developed with high-performance polymers, capable of withstanding the most aggressive environments while establishing a precise relationship between flow rate and pressure drop.

The control valve ensures the desired installed characteristic (fast-opening curve, linear or equal percentage as required) in conditions where metal valves will have a life expectancy of only a few months, as Stainless steel has a very thin protective chromium oxide layer, whereas the entire polymer material is intrinsically resistant to corrosion. Moreover, for the same size, a thermoplastic valve can be 5 times more abrasion-resistant, 5 times less expensive and 5 times lighter than a metal valve.

Different ranges with one thing in common : performance in demanding conditions

Chemical attack, fluids loaded with solid particles and high velocities generating erosion are all different challenges when handling corrosive fluids.

Thanks to certain high-performance polymers, such as PVDF, SAFI’s control valve range can regulate flow over a wide range.

SAFI’s wide range consist of:

  • Needle valves that provide high precision for very low flow rates, known as micro-regulation,
  • Ball valves equipped with V-port, of varying design. The different designs are used, depending on the precision required and the range to be regulated.

The V-port is specially designed to resist abrasion and prevent cavitation (higher FL recovery factor than a ball valve),

  • Butterfly valves used for high flow rates (sizes up to DN1000),

  • Diaphragm valves when a “quick opening” feature is required.

Tailor-made control

One of the great strengths of SAFI control valves lies in their adaptability to the most specific requirements. With “made-to-measure” in its DNA, SAFI’s technical team adapts the shape of the V-Port to ensure that the control curve is consistent with the installer’s process data. Combining numerical simulation and laboratory validation, a solution is always found be it standard or a special design.

Different shapes for V-ports and needles

Standard actuators and positioners can be used with these valves, and SAFI is able to work with any type, brand and technology.

A wide range of applications

These industrial control solutions can be used for the simplest to the most demanding applications. It is in the latter applications that SAFI’s anti-corrosion control valves demonstrate their real added value. From simple water treatment to wet processes for the manufacture of cathode materials to sulphuric or hydrochloric acid production units, an anti-corrosion control system can and has been implemented by SAFI Globally.
