The Facility has consistently met its 22,000-plus Nm3/d (normal cubic meter per day) target, with Landia’s externally-mounted system comprehensively mixing thickened sewage sludge in two 7,306m3 digesters. In five years of 24/7 operation, only one pump has required an overhaul.
Landia’s Key Account Manager, Paul Davies, commented: “Our GasMix system, which includes Landia’s Chopper Pump, has proved super-reliable. It is simple, but very effective. It gets on with the job, ensuring that the very best gas quality is achieved because it comprehensively mixes the digesters. Maintenance is extremely easy, because all mechanical equipment is located outside the digester.”
Playing a significant part in helping the water company meet its net zero carbon target by 2030, its Energy & Recycling Facility opened in 2019 as a strategic regional sludge treatment centre to receive indigenous and imported sludge in both liquid and cake forms.
By keeping solids in suspension and continuously reducing their particle size, the Landia GasMix ensures that a process-debilitating crust (typical of many digesters) does not form at the top of the tank. The Landia Chopper Pump, which is at the heart of the system, draws thick liquid from the bottom of the tank, where solids are chopped to accelerate the digestion process. In doing so, this prevents the clogging of pipes/nozzles, and the accumulation of grit at the bottom of the tank.
