Static Mixers Provide Solutions for Water Treatment Plants

10 Feb 2021  |
The water treatment plants’ demand for precise and responsive chemical dosing for treatments is increasing.

They require not only the precise metering of chemicals to meet process demands, but also performance for flow conditions.  In addition to the preciseness, the solutions need to be energy-efficient and cost-effective. This is where static mixers come in.

Inline Static Mixers

The mixing of the chemicals has a major influence on each stage of the water treatment process.  What plants are finding is that the high level of mixing is not being met for the required conditions.

Static mixers provide continuous mixing and blending of all treatment chemicals for water and wastewater.  Flocculants, neutralizing agents, pH conditioners, and disinfectants are added to the water stream and mixed.

The use of channel static mixers can offer the optimum mixing so that it achieves the correct treatment.

The Use of Ozone Within the Water Treatment Plants

Ozone is a powerful oxidizing compound that can rapidly oxidize materials, it also is an efficient disinfectant against bacteria and viruses.  However, ozone is unstable and a short life span, which means that mixing and distribution must be as fast as possible.

Static mixers solve this problem versus the use of stirred tanks.

Komax Answers for Water Treatment Facilities

Komax understands the different problems that face the municipal water treatment plants.  The engineering team designed a series of solutions that will not only provide precision but also help with cost-savings.

The Komax channel static mixer utilizes a non-clogging, mixing technology that can used in both influent raw water and effluent water treatment.

The channel mixer has the option to be open or closed to fit any channel cross section.  The open design allows the debris to pass through, thus avoiding the clogging that occurs in previous designs.  The design prevents “stapling” of stringy materials in the flow.

You can also use the Komax channel static mixer with the injecting and mixing of ozone.

Wastewater treatment plants find that the channel mixer can inject and mix chlorine and sodium bisulfite to disinfect the wastewater for safe discharge into river, streams, or lakes.

Triple Action Static Mixing Technology

What sets the Komax channel mixer apart from other brand’s designs is the series of interlocking left and right-hand mixing components.  Under turbulent flow the components create elliptical vortices rotating in the opposite direction of either side of each element.  The axis of each vortex is at right angles to the axis of the main water flow, generating a back-mixing effect that diffuses the chemicals evenly.  It adds chemicals through several spargers attached at the upstream end of the mixer.

Komax Has a Dedicated Team for Water Plants

Komax can create a solution for any water treatment facility’s problems.  They have a dedicated team and they can supply the designs as complete assemblies or in component form for onsite fabrication when access is difficult.  Contact the engineering team today.
